It is the nickel-chromium-molybdenum composition that allows this alloy very high resistance to corrosion, besides high mechanical strength. It has excellent mechanical properties with a minimum yield strength of 220 MPa and tensile strength of a minimum of 490 MPa. Another factor that adds to the strength is the very high melting point of the material, 1350°C. Basically, the Alloy 904L Blind Flange serves for closing the end of a pipe, and mostly it is permanently fixed. These flanges are a low-carbon variant of the 904 grade and, as such, can be easily weldable and formable without running excessive risks of grain formation and resultant intergranular corrosion mechanisms arising from carbide precipitation.
